BIG-RT Overview

Overview

The BioInnovation Group Research Training (BIG-RT) program is a co-curricular program that provides students with molecular biology and biotechnology skills in pipetting, gel electrophoresis, and PCR. Using this course as a launchpad, students build experience in order to join research labs or one of BIG’s student-led research projects.

What to expect

BIG-RT is for undergraduates, by undergraduates. A trained staff of Student Lab Managers (SLMs pronounced like 'slim') provide students with guidance and training on a set of molecular biology techniques. Students will complete pre- and post- lab exercises on Canvas and participate in a 2-hour per week in-person session the lab. Each BIG-RT session runs for 4-weeks. Upon completion of each of the modules, you will receive a certificate showcasing your exceptional efforts in the program.

Program Layout

The program is split into three modules, each module covering a foundational laboratory technique used in molecular biology. These techniques are pipetting, gel electrophoresis, and PCR. There is a week at the end of each session for make-up in case you miss a week of the program.
